Fluent on Your Feet
Private Coaching for Courtroom Speaking
This trial advocacy training course is an in-house program that includes a 75-minute lecture followed by 45-minute individual coaching sessions. An entire firm or department may attend the lecture, but there may not be enough time for all to receive an individual coaching. This program refines presentation skills for all levels, from senior partners to junior associates. Advance preparation time is 15 minutes, and total time commitment per attorney is 2 hours.
Contact us for details about holding this program at your firm or law department.
The Articulate Advocate®
Get your nose out of your notes, look your jurors in the eye, and be what you’ve always wanted to be: the articulate advocate. Becoming more fluent on your feet is the focus of this program, and we invite you to join us and just nine other trial lawyers for two full days devoted to polishing your personal persuasive style. We draw on cutting-edge discoveries in linguistics, neuroscience, and sports psychology to give you the competitive edge the next time you stand up in court.
Sign up for this public program at NITA, or contact us for details to present it in-house at your firm or law department.
Workshops for Women
Finding Your Assertive, Confident Voice
Women face a unique speaking challenge when communicating in a room full of men whose voices are often deeper, louder, and more resonant. This interactive session is appropriate for both trial and corporate lawyers. Marsha Hunter, bringing her experience from teaching at the Center for Women in the Law at the University of Texas, in-house gender-specific programs, and numerous female-majority legal aid courses, is the trainer for the program.

The Articulate Witness: An Illustrated Guide to Testifying Confidently Under Oath
by Brian K. Johnson and Marsha Hunter, Illustrated by Barbara J. Richied
Every day in the United States, ordinary people are called to testify in court. Most of them have never been involved in a legal proceeding. But they have probably seen witnesses in high-profile trials on TV, being harshly cross examined, looking nervous or anxious—perhaps even humiliated. The thought of testifying can be scary. Being subpoenaed can lead to weeks or months of anxiety until the day arrives when they raise their right hand and swear to tell the truth. Now attorneys have a new tool for helping these anxious witnesses to “Calm down, speak up, and be ready.”
